Looking for a truly beautiful and magical adventure then Hayburn Wyke is for you.

Hayburn Wyke is a beautiful secluded cove which can be found between Scarborough and Whitby.

Our trek began at a little gate around the side of the Hayburn Wyke Inn.

This took us across a little field to another gate where we saw a National Trust sign which then led us into the woods. From there we went down some natural looking steps. However once we got to the bottom of those steps we weren’t entirely sure which way we were to go. As all signposting had vanished and we were left at a crossroads.

Luckily for us we had heard some voices off to the side of us, and decided to follow the voices. Which took us across a narrow footbridge. Once across the footbridge it didn’t take us long to bump into another family, who were also looking for the waterfalls. As we stood chatting to them briefly their older children made their way up another pathway to see if they could spot the waterfalls. We then waited a few minutes to see if they had any luck. Before deciding we’d go that way and check it out ourselves.

A little further up the pathway we bumped into one of the kids who was coming back down to his folks. In passing he told us there was a little gate up ahead and just beyond that he could see the sea.

We kept going until we too reached the gate which the boy had spoke of. The trek at this point got a little more difficult as the little footpath got narrower and there was a steep drop either side of us now. By this point John was carrying Holly and I was holding Ella’s hand to guide her and make sure she didn’t fall. At the end of the narrow pathway we came to some more natural steps and yet another crossroads. We went right, where we had yet more steps steps to descend. These steps were rather steep and a little awkward to navigate. The steps led down onto a footbridge where we could hear running water and it looked out onto the north sea. It truly was a beautiful sight to behold!

From there we made our way down onto the breathtakingly beautiful cove where the waterfalls came trickling down.

{I’m sure they look absolutely stunning in the wetter season when the water comes cascading down}. Not that this took anything away from this magical experience!

The cove was covered with coloured pebbles of all shapes and sizes, which the girls absolutely loved sitting and throwing into to the sea.

And whilst we were only there for about half and hour or so, we could have quite easily spent a whole day there as it was so magical, beautiful and tranquil. It truly is a magnificent place to visit and one not many people seem to know about.

However that said the trek back was a killer.

Which was not made any easier by the fact that John had agreed before leaving, that girls could take a pebble back. Ella of course had to pick up and take the biggest pebble she could carry!

This was a decision John instantly regretted upon seeing Ella’s gigantic choice of pebble. Which he ended up carrying all the way back in his pocket with the added weight of Holly as well. This made walking very different as he could hardly bend his knee climbing the stairs. So needless to say he was well and truly shattered by the time he got back to the Inn.
