Whitelee Windfarm

At the beginning of the Summer holidays whilst we were visiting family up in Scotland, we had our first ever Scottish adventure.

This very lovely and unusual adventure was brought on by our princess’s love for spotting windmills on the motorway. They literally scream *windmill, windmill, windmill, windmill windmill, windmill, windmill!!!!* in sheer excitement as soon as the see them.

Thus how the Whitelee Windfarm adventure was born…

Now while there wasn’t a lot to do there it was still an amazing adventure.

Ella and Holly standing underneath windmill number 40. The first windmill we came across.

Ella posing at windmill 40 for me.

The windmills were gigantic! So much so we felt as if we entered a fairytale. In the land of Giants and make believe we felt so small and insignificant.

The sound alone that came off of the windmill was amazing and like nothing we had ever heard before. I literally couldn’t describe it even if I tried!

Oh my and the views they were simply picturesque. It was so relaxing out there in the fresh air. Well not really for John who had to rush Holly all the way back to the Visitors Centre. Which was over a mile away from where we were.

One of the beautiful views Ella and I sat taking in as we waited for John and Holly to return.

Poor John ended up running the majority of the way back with Holly in his arms. In an attempt to get her to the “little girls room” faster and in time.

In the mean time Ella and I sat in the middle of nowhere taking in the views. We also chatted and took silly selfies with my dying phone.

When John and Holly eventually joined us we continued on our way to Blackwood Hill viewpoint.

The views from up here were so pretty and you could see windmills for as far as the eyes can see.

Such a proud and adventurous explorer.

After we had rested for a few minutes and gotten all the pictures our hearts desired, we set off back down the hill and back towards the Visitors Centre.

Along the walk back we tried to capture pictures of us holding the windmills.

Whilst I didn’t manage to capture this shot properly I think it didn’t turn out too bad.

Ella even collected some wildflowers and Holly blew dandelions.

Ella’s pretty collection of vibrant wildflowers.

Holly just loved blowing this dandelion.

When we eventually made it back to the Visitors Centre we made a trip to the “little girls room” and explored The Exhibition and The Learning Hub. All before heading to the cafe for a much needed drink and a souvenir before jumping back into our car.

Two very happy explorers who enjoyed their visit to Whitelee Windfarm.

Our experience at Whitelee Windfarm was a very pleasant one and the staff were not only helpful but very friendly too.

Would we go back?

Yes we definitely would as we only completed the smaller circuit. And it is such a lovely and  senic walk!
