Last month we took a lovely but very unexpected trip to Sherwood Forest. I mean it would have been rude not to! As we were in the area.
Upon arrival we noticed that there was an entrance fee of £3 and unfortunately we had no cash what so ever on us. Luckily for us we were told that there was a little village down the road that had a cashpoint.
So we turned the car around and headed for the cashpoint. In no time at all we had been and returned.
Before entering the forest we came upon this glorious tree trunk covered in mushrooms. *This of course is where the fairies live*.
A little afterwards we came to a clearing where we stopped to take a few pictures of the girls.
After I had finished taking pictures of the girls it was time to move on. So we went up this tiny trail where unfortunately we didn’t notice the nettles and Ella got stung on her hand. I too got stung as I tried to help Ella make her way through. To try and ease the stinging I put some aloe vera hand sanitizer on it. *I know right*. Daddy then picked Ella up and carried her just as he was carrying Holly.
Thankfully it wasn’t to much longer until the tiny trail lead out onto one of the main paths. Where Daddy put Ella down and she continued to walk.
To try cheer Ella up and take her mind off of the whole ordeal. We went in search of the playground.
A little further down the track we spotted our first and only squirrel. The girls decided that it was Felix, Nutkin’s friend from Peter Rabbit. They were so excited that they went running towards Felix. Which sent him scurrying up the tree.
After scaring poor Felix off unintentionally John and the girls decided to do a spot of tree climbing too.
With it being the first time Ella had ever climbed a tree daddy helped her.
Now buzzing with excitement and confidence too, Ella of course had to do it again on her own.
And she did it brilliantly! However as she was wearing the wrong shoes *tut-tut* and was starting to slip. Daddy being her knight in shining armour swooped into rescue her.
Off we went once more. This time following the signs for the *Mighty Oak Tree* in the hope of finding signposts for the playground.
Oh gosh and mighty it was!
It was absolutely huge and truly impressive too.
Around the corner from the Mighty Oak Tree was *The Laughing Tree- Protector of the Forest and bringer of laughter and joy to the Green Woods* . As you can see from the picture below Ella was a little weary of it.
Once we had explained to Ella that it was made of out of wood and that there was nothing to be afraid of. She then decided to get up close and personal. And whisper tails of the Gruffalo to the laughing tree.
Holly on the other hand wasn’t scared of the laughing tree at all.
As we continued on down the track we came across some scattered little fairy houses.
It wasn’t to long before we reached a crossroads. Straight ahead of us was a row of beautiful autumnal looking trees on either side it was just so pretty.
I would have loved to have explored that pathway, but unfortunately Ella needed the toilet so we ended up turning off to the right.
In no time at all the gift shops, restaurant and toilets were before us. After a quick trip to the toilet, John decided to ask a staff member for directions to the playground. Whilst he was doing this I continued to take pictures.
Once John returned from finding out where the playground was off we set.
*Yippee * at long last we had finally found the playground *woohoo*! Even though the playground ground was more of an obstacle course the girls didn’t mind one bit. As they were just so happy to finally be playing in it.
The girls had a blast playing there with daddy as I took it easy and took some pictures.
Before we knew it it was time for us to leave the playground and go to the gift shop. As it was getting late and we still needed to drive back to Doncaster. Not that it stop us from having fun and messing around on the way to the gift shop.
It truly was a lovely little surprise outing and one I’m sure we all wouldn’t mind doing again.
Have you ever been to Sherwood Forest?
