Despite the rather dreary weather on Sunday we hopped in the car, and drove to Sheffield in the hope of a fun afternoon out.

Just as we parked opposite the entrance to Sheffield Botanical Gardens it started to drizzle. *Oh bugger*

Oh well we’ve come this far and there’s no turning back now. And it’s only a slight rainforest drizzle so we sucked it up and began exploring. We all seemed to be having a lovely time exploring as there was so much to see.

There was a pond with a little bridge and waterfall.

Further down in one of the other gardens we came across a giant metallic ant.

Oh and lets not forget the gazebo…

After we were done exploring this little garden we moved on. It wasn’t to long before we spotted a fountain, or as Holly liked to call it a *mountain*. I tried correcting her several times but it was all in vain.

As we got to the fountain there were ooòs and aaaàhs coming from both girls. These were shorted lived as the girls spotted a squirrel and decided to run after him.

After the squirrel made a speedy get away up the tree it was time to move on.So off we went in search of some more squirrels, and to our surprise it wasn’t long before we came across another one. He was sat in the tree making quite the racket. In fact John and I had never heard a squirrel make a peep since then. It was quite surreal!

We managed to coax it down from the tree by speaking softly to it and making a soft clicking nose. You’re probably thinking we’re a right bunch of nutters by now! Lol to be fair we probably are….

But you know what we were all delighted as it can up close to us. Haha maybe a little to close as we were a little jumpy and nervous. As this is a whole new experience to us.

No sooner had our little inquisitive friend said hello, then he was gone. So off we went too.

A little further down the track and around the corner Ella made a little friend.

Yip it was yet another squirrel! There didn’t seem to be any shortages of these furry critters. This one seemed very taken with Ella and was giving her a good sniff.

As we continued to explore we came across this darling little lodge.

And some frost. Which the girls seemed to be having fun examining.

As we made our way back and in search of the bear pit we reached a little clearing. Sat there was a young couple feeding the squirrels. We stood here for some time watching them interacting with the squirrels. It really was mesmerizing.

We had to tell Holly to be quiet a few times as she seemed to be scaring them off in all her excitement and when any of them came near her she ran behind us squealing. Lol it was so adorable.

Once the couple moved on Ella gave it a go. She sat ever so quietly with one of the nuts she had found. Within a few minutes a squirrel came bounding up claiming the nut. Once it had eaten the nut the squirrel checked her out for more. It did so by climbing in her lap and eventually trying to climb up her arm.

One squirrel quickly turned into two.

And now it was time to get moving again.

Next stop was the bear pit.

Oh word I couldn’t believe that they actually kept to bears in that tiny enclosure.

Ella and Holly loved it in there. We loved seeing them caged up too. Nah just kidding…

There was lots of roaring going on to.

Our next stop was a quick one to see the statue of Pan.
